The National PTA Reflections Theme for the 2017-2018 School Year is:
*The theme for 2018-2019 will be "Heroes Around Me". Look for more information after July!*
2017-2018 National Reflections Winners (including WLN student Leah Riben!)
WLCSD Students: Tell us your interpretation of the theme: “Within Reach." Only new and original works of art will be accepted. Enter only ONE piece per the following art categories you qualify for:
- Dance Choreography
- Film Production
- Music Composition
- Visual Arts (2D and 3D)
- Special Artist (must qualify)
No experience is required to participate in Reflections! Choose the arts category you’re interested in, create an original piece of artwork based on the theme, “Within Reach” and be recognized as an artist in our community!
Follow your school's PTA deadlines and instructions on how to enter. Please Read Rules prior to submitting your work to ensure all the requirements are met. The Student Entry Form & the Consent Form (for those students who have other students in their pieces) can be found below the Program Rules.
In your artist statement, tell us about your work and what it means to you.
- How does your work relate to the theme?
- What is your personal connection to the theme?
- What did you use to create your work (supplies, technology, instrumentation, props, etc)?
- What/Who was your inspiration?
Volunteer arts and education experts review submissions without knowledge of the entrants' identity. Judges look for personal interpretations on the program theme that best exemplify creativity and technical skill.
- Interpretation-How closely the piece relates to the theme, based on the artwork itself and the artist statement.
- Creativity-How creative and original the piece is in its conception of the theme and its presentation
- Technique-The level of skill demonstrated in the basic principles/techniques of the arts area.

2017-2018 Program Rules, Entry Forms, and Consent Form by School:
November TBD, 2018 - Submissions due to individual schools/PTAs/PTSAs
December TBD, 2018 - Advancing Artwork due. Specific dates and location TBD.
January TBD, 2019 - WLCS District winners announced to chairs and PTSA board via email. Winning entries will be submitted electronically to the state of Michigan.
January TBD, 2019 - School chairs will be sent a list of the WLCSD winners that went to the state level.
Mid-January through End of February, 2019 - WLCSD district chair people forward district winners to State of Michigan Reflections judges to be processed, judged, and then State of Michigan winners determined.
March 2019 - Date TBD- State of Michigan winning entries announced
